Often times when you hear people talk about acting or storytelling you’ll hear them refer to completing the circle. This is a reference to making the character or the story whole, or to completing an arc. One story ends another begins and so it goes. We all have our aspirations but sometimes life gets in the way and for one reason or another we move on by choice or necessity. Since he was a boy Robert Davi wanted to be a director and after many years of a still incredibly successful acting career, “The Dukes”, has made that aspiration a reality.
My hats off to Mr. Davi for a great job. The movie is about a famous Doo Wop group of the 1960’s that now find themselves struggling to survive. The ensemble of lovable losers have to overcome one obstacle after another to get off the mat and reclaim who they are. How do they do this you ask? By trying to pull off a heist only a fool would try.
The Dukes is a heartfelt comedy, with great characters and music that will have you have you telling your friends to go see this movie.
Among other aspects, during the interview we got into the writing, directing, cinematography, and music of the movie. Davi is very well studied at his craft and offers great insights into the creative process and he even touches on distribution.
Davi also answered instant messages from viewers about many of his past projects including License To Kill, The Goonies, Raw Deal and talked about upcoming work as well… He told great stories about Palminteri, Stallone, Schwarzenegger and also answered a question about the image of Italian actors in TV and Film.
I can’t recap it all so you’re going to have to watch!
